Manually uninstalling the AppGate Device Firewall

Description:

Older version of the Appate Personal Firewall may fail to uninstall. It is then neseccary to remove the Personal Firewall manually. To do this you need to edit the registry and delete a few files.

Instructions

  • Start the registry editor. Start -> Run -> "regedit"
  • Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> AppGate and Right click on Pfw and select Delete.
  • Stop the AppGate Personal Firewall Service. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Right-click on the AppGate Personal Firewall service and select Stop.
  • Press Alt+Ctrl+Del to go into the Task Manager. Select Processes and do "End Process" on all processes that begins with agpfw.
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\AppGate\Pfw, and all its content. You may e.g. use the Windows Explore tool to do this.
  • Restart the computer.
  • At this point the PFW is taken out of service.

However, though never activated, the actual device driver is still in the system and you may optionally want to remove it as well. To do this the only way is to go through a complete and successful install and uninstall cycle using a normal uninstall procedure.

    • Install the latest PFW and then
    • Uninstall it again using Controll panel -> "Add remove programs"
