As part of the European Election count, each local authority must return a total count result to it’s respective Regional Returning Officer. Watford Borough Council chose to use it’s new AppGate security solution to enable the sending of an e-mail, containing the election results, from their internal e-mail domain. The AppGate solution provided secure access to Outlook Web Access on the Watford Borough Council Corporate ICT network.  

“We could have used a true ISP web based Email solution, but using AppGate allowed for increased security and sender authentication for the recipient” says Morgan Trebicki, ICT Infrastructure Engineer at Watford Borough Council.

“Initially Watford Borough Council (WBC) required a solution to provide secure remote access to their corporate network, to replace their existing IP-SEC VPN solution which they found inflexible and unmanageable.
