Barry Field
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Barry Field brings extensive experience as a sales executive leading successful IT infrastructure and software-enabled technology sales organizations. Field previously served as CEO of Cryptzone, where he led the strategic vision, product development, international growth and expansion into new markets.
Field served in positions of increasing seniority at Terremark from 2007 until 2013, most recently as SVP of Global Sales. In that role, he was responsible for managing the global sales organization for the cloud, data center and managed security businesses. Verizon/Terremark’s total revenues at the time of Mr. Field’s departure exceeded $1.5 billion.
Since March 2013, Field has served as a Partner of Medina Capital with a focus on implementing and improving portfolio company enterprise sales and go-to-market strategies that drive revenue and increase business development through various channels.
Prior to joining Terremark, Field served in multiple sales leadership roles for Data Return, a managed services provider that was ultimately acquired by Terremark. Field’s early career included roles as a sales representative with iKnowledge in the Boston area, and as a District Sales Manager and Sales Representative with Wallace Computer Services in the New York City area. Field received his bachelor’s in Marketing from Fairfield University.
Alberto Arango
CHIEF REVENUE OFFICER
Alberto Arango is an accomplished cybersecurity sales executive with a strong history of building world-class teams for industry-leading companies that deliver record revenue growth for enterprise customers across markets. He previously served as SVP of Cybersecurity and Anti-Fraud solutions at Appgate, where he led the company to its highest performing period of revenue growth.
Prior, Arango has served in sales leadership positions where he has had full accountability for revenue, profit, service delivery and client satisfaction. Before joining Appgate, Arango led the global sales efforts for Easy Solutions, which resulted in the company being acquired by Cyxtera in 2017. Prior to Easy Solutions, Alberto led sales at British Telecom as its Vice President of Sales for the Southern US where he developed the top performing sales team in the company. This achievement capped off four years of consistently leading sales projections while directing an industrious sales force with an outstanding customer satisfaction rate. Prior to BT, he led sales in Latin America for Internet Security Systems, which was acquired by IBM in 2006. Arango holds a B.S. in Marketing from Louisiana State University and a Masters of Business Administration in International Business from Mercer University.
Rene Rodríguez
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Rene Rodriguez has more than 15 years of experience as a finance executive with expertise in managing financial operations, capital markets, investor relations, financial analysis, and mergers and acquisitions. Immediately prior to AppGate’s spin-out, Rodriguez was the CFO of Cyxtera since May 2017.
Since 2011, Rodriguez has also served as a Partner and the CFO of Medina Capital. In that role, Rodriguez focuses on evaluating potential investments, fundraising, fund administration and financial guidance across the firm’s portfolio.
Rodriguez served in positions of increasing seniority at Terremark from 2005 until June 2011, most recently as Vice President of Financial Planning. In that role, he was responsible for the reporting of the financial and operational results of Terremark and its subsidiaries to its executive team and the investor community.
Prior to joining Terremark, Rodriguez held various positions at the Burger King Corporation focusing on worldwide valuation, process improvement, investment analysis and international fraud audits. Rodriguez started his professional career as part of the assurance practice at BDO Seidman LLP focusing on the firm’s financial services, technology, hospitality and aviation clients in South Florida, the Caribbean and Central America.
Rodriguez received his bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and his master’s in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
Julie Preiss
CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER
Julie Preiss has nearly a decade of cybersecurity marketing expertise. She has led marketing for high growth stage companies transitioning from start-up to exit. Her background includes creating and executing strategies that increase brand awareness, generate leads, create analyst champions and provide go-to expert resources for the media.
Preiss led communications at Cyxtera prior to the company spinning-off the Appgate business. Previous roles include head of marketing at Rsam, a GRC and security operations SaaS provider; Damballa, an advanced threat protection provider; and Dell Secureworks, the market leader in managed security services.
Preiss earned a BA in Communications from the University of Georgia. She has served as marketing mentor at the Advanced Technology Development Center and has won numerous industry marketing awards.
Gregory J. Touhill
PRESIDENT, APPGATE FEDERAL
Brigadier General (Ret) Gregory J. Touhill, CISSP, CISM, serves as President of Appgate's Federal Division, which offers Appgate's market-leading cybersecurity capabilities to federal agencies and departments.
Under Touhill’s leadership, Appgate's SDP is the first and only Software-Defined Perimeter to achieve Common Criteria (CC) certification. It has also been added to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Continuous Diagnosis and Mitigation Program’s (CDM) Approved Products List (APL).
Prior to joining AppGate, Touhill was appointed by President Barack Obama as the nation’s first ever Federal Chief Information Security Officer in 2016, where he was responsible for ensuring that the proper set of digital security policies, strategies and practices were adopted across all government agencies.
Brigadier General Gregory J. Touhill is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and combat veteran who served in several commands around the world including U.S. Transportation, Central, and Strategic Commands, and led the creation of the Air Force’s cyberspace operations training programs. He is a sought-after speaker and author within the information technology industry, where he is best-known for his “Cybersecurity for Executives: A Practical Guide,” which is used widely at colleges and universities across the country. He is also a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College, where he teaches Cyber Risk Management. Touhill is a recipient of numerous professional and education degrees from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Air War College, the University of Southern California and Penn State University.
Jeff Nord
SVP, OPERATIONS
Jeffrey Nord is Senior Vice President of Operations for Appgate. Prior to the firm’s spin-out, Jeff was the SVP of Service Delivery for Cyxtera’s colocation business.
Before joining Cyxtera, Nord held roles at Verizon, where he led the integration of Terremark and Verizon Business Cloud and Managed Services business units into a single, global operations organization. His team of more than 1,800 employees were responsible for Service Delivery, Customer Support, Infrastructure Engineering, and Change Management across Verizon’s broad portfolio of services.
Prior to Verizon, Nord led the Infrastructure and Service Delivery organizations for Terremark, which included Infrastructure Engineering, 24x7 Customer Support, Professional Services, Managed Security, and Implementation.
Before his time at Terremark, Nord was with SAVVIS, where he was responsible for Service Delivery. During his nine years at SAVVIS, Nord lived and worked in Singapore and Reading, England.
Kurt Glazemakers
SVP, ENGINEERING
Kurt Glazemakers is responsible for defining the strategy, development and roadmap of the next generation of Appgate's flagship Software-Defined Perimeter solution. Glazemakers was the independent technical expert within the Medina Capital investment team that exercised due diligence prior to the acquisition of Cryptzone in April 2014.
Glazemakers is renowned for his extensive knowledge of software development, especially in the Software-Defined network and storage area. Prior to joining Appgate, he served as CTO of CloudFounders, a developer of advanced private cloud technologies for IT as a service (ITaaS) solutions.
He also served as Terremark’s CTO Europe (now part of Verizon), where he was responsible for the development of Enterprise Cloud. Throughout his career, Glazemakers has focused on the development of innovative solutions that increase the availability, security and scalability of mission-critical infrastructures. He holds a Master of Engineering, Telecommunications and Computer Networks from University Ghent in Belgium.
Jason Garbis
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF PRODUCTS FOR APPGATE
Jason Garbis is Senior Vice President of Products for Appgate, responsible for the company's security product strategy and product management, and held a similar leadership role at Cryptzone prior to its acquisition by Appgate/Cyxtera. Garbis is also co-chair of the SDP Zero Trust Working Group at the Cloud Security Alliance, where he helps lead research and publication initiatives.
Garbis has over 30 years of product management, engineering, and consulting experience at security and technology firms, including RSA, where he focused on identity management and governance products. Garbis hold a CISSP certification, has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell University, a High-Technology MBA from Northeastern University, and is a published author. He is also co-chair of the Boston chapter of the Cloud Security Alliance.
Carolina Suarez-Aguiar
VP, HR OPERATIONS
Carolina Suarez-Aguiar leads the human resources team with responsibility over talent acquisition, employee development, benefits, compensation and diversity. Having been in HR within the technology industry for 14 years, Suarez-Aguiar brings experience in developing competitive employee benefits programs, management of stock-based compensation and employee relations.
As Vice President of HR Operations at Cyxtera, Suarez-Aguiar led the global benefits program as well as serving as the HR operations leader for the Cybersecurity business unit handling employee relations, performance management, and organizational planning. Prior to Cyxtera, she ran the HR function at Easy Solutions. Suarez-Aguiar started her professional career at Terremark where she served in positions of increasing seniority in employee benefits. When Terremark was acquired by Verizon in 2011, she led the process to transition all employee benefits including managing employee communication and benefits education. At Verizon, she served as the HR Business Partner for the Colocation Business unit which involved consulting with business leaders to provide creative solutions to HR challenges surrounding compensation, employee relations, and organizational development.
Carolina received her BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management and her MBA from Florida International University.
Mike Lopez
VP & GENERAL MANAGER, FRAUD PROTECTION
Mike Lopez is Vice President and General Manager of Appgate's Fraud Protection offering. With more than 15 years of banking industry experience with a focus in Fraud and Anti-money laundering operations, Lopez has developed a deep understanding of the fraud landscape and the effective measures institutions should take to mitigate fraud.
Before joining Appgate, Lopez was Vice President of Global Operations for Cyxtera‘s fraud offering. His team of over 125 employees were responsible for Service Delivery, Customer Support, Infrastructure Management, and SOC Operations.
Prior to Cyxtera, Lopez led the Service Delivery organization for Easy Solutions, which included Customer Support, SOC Operations, Professional Services, and Risk and Compliance.
Lopez previously served as the Chief Information Officer for Marquis Bank, and as a Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Manager for Ocean Bank, both community banks based in Florida. He holds a degree in Information Technology from the University of Miami’s School of Engineering.
Dawn-Marie Vaughan
VP & GENERAL MANAGER, IMMUNITY
Dawn-Marie Vaughan is Vice President and General Manager of Immunity, Appgate’s business unit, offering offense-focused security products, services and training. With over 15 years of experience in insider threat and cybersecurity consulting, Dawn-Marie is a demonstrated performer, innovator and leader in the security industry—successfully starting up and managing operations and professional services teams in both the commercial and Federal Government sectors.
Before joining Appgate, Dawn-Marie was Vice President of Integrated Operations for Cyxtera Cybersecurity. Over the course of 3 years, Dawn-Marie was responsible for overseeing operations for Immunity, Brainspace, Compliance Sheriff and Total Fraud Protection product teams.
Prior to Cyxtera, Dawn-Marie was CEO of Springboard Services, a consulting firm providing insider threat investigations, business intelligence analysis, anti-money laundering and risk assessment consulting to Fortune 500 customers. Dawn-Marie has exemplified her expertise in a wide range of industries, including: financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, digital entertainment, retail, manufacturing, supply chain and transportation.
Dawn-Marie received her BS in International Finance, with a concentration in Economics, from Michigan State University. Dawn-Marie is an active member and supporter of the International Women in Technology and the Diana Initiative.
